The Cheshire Fencing Club is a nationally recognized member of the
Connecticut division of the United Stated Fencing Association. We
sponsor weekly tournaments open to
all registered members of the United States Fencing Association.
They are held on Wednesday’s at 7:00, at the Norton school gym in
Cheshire, CT.
The
Cheshire YMCA sponsors the Dodd Middle School after-school clubs. The Cheshire
Fencing Club works in conjunction with the YMCA to bring fencing
instruction to Dodd
Middle School Students as a club sport
and was formed to
introduce the sport of fencing to the students of Cheshire with physical
training, exciting competition, and tactical study.
The Cheshire High School
program is completely funded through the Cheshire Fencing Club. Several
efforts are underway to formally secure fencing as a club sport at
Cheshire High School, however the team is granted space and training
through classes offered by the
Cheshire
YMCA. Cheshire High School competes along with 25 or so other
high schools throughout the state as part of the Connecticut High School
Fencing Association.
Fencing
instruction for Cheshire High School Students
was formed to
introduce the sport of fencing to the students of Cheshire with physical
training, exciting competition, and tactical study.
If you enroll in Wednesday night, you are welcome to
take the footwork part of the Monday class and open fence as long as
there is room and you do not create a distraction. There are no
classes on Wednesday at this time. If you are in the Monday class
and wish to come occasionally to Wednesday Night bouting to compete, you
may as long as there is room. If you wish to come regularly, please
sign up for both nights. There is a nominal $5.00 per night floor charge
on Wednesday’s for Non-YMCA members to fence For more information,
check here.
Yes, but only by special request and availability is extremely
limited. Personal training is an important component of a fencer’s
development, however, the club is supported by volunteers – it is
much better to get your instruction from people who do this or a living.
We recommend the following local facilities
for private instruction:
Candlewood Fencing Center in Danbury, Connecticut is perhaps
Connecticut’s finest fencing center and offers many
comprehensive classes of varying skill level in Foil, Epee, or Sabre.
They also offer private lessons from USFCA certified instructors and
training from Russian masters. (203) 778-0808
